NEW HAMPSHIRE cops fear a young Maine mom whose car and baby girl were found abandoned in a parking lot was the victim of foul play. Krista Dittmeyer, 20, of Portland, vanished Saturday when her car was discovered with the engine running and hazard lights flashing in the Cranmore Mountain Ski area. Cops say there is no indication she left her car and 14 month-old Aliyah by choice. The baby is in good condition.
Lt. Chris Perley said:"People have asked about suicide or mental illness, but there’s nothing to indicate either of those things."
Dittmeyer’s sister had no idea why she drove to New Hampshire, although she has who live in that area. Kayla Dittmeyer told the Portland Press Herald that she thinks someone forced her sister out of the car and that her sister persuaded them to leave her baby behind.
Kayla said: "My sister is very headstrong, but she is also very bold and very honest. That is why I feel she is OK. She’s a very strong person. I believe she is trying to talk her way through this."
Krista is a waitress and a single mom who would never abandon her baby, her sister said.
Kayla added: "She would do anything for her. It was all so out of character for her. She would never put her daughter in harm’s way."
