Appeals Court Says it’s Ok to Cancel ACORN Funding

Finally a court decision that makes sense!

ACORN is a corrupt organization that was robbing the taxpayers blind with their phony voter registration drives to put Democrats in office.

Some of these clowns at ACORN deserve to be in jail

The New York Post reports that an appeals court today upheld a decision by Congress to cancel funding for the controversial ACORN activist group last year in the wake of a secret-video scandal.

The federal Second Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan overturned a lower-court ruling that said the move violated the Constitution by punishing ACORN without a trial.

"Despite that evidence of punitive intent on the part of some members of Congress...there is no congressional finding of guilt in this case," the three-judge panel ruled.

"Here, at most, there is the 'smattering' of legislators' opinions regarding ACORN's guilt of fraud."

But the appeals court also sent the case back to Brooklyn federal Judge Nina Gershon to consider ACORN's claims its free-speech and due-process rights were violated.

Congress cut off funding for ACORN last year after conservative activists used a hidden camera to record workers offering advice on how to set up a proposed prostitution business.

A Congressional report said the group had received $53 million in taxpayer money since 1994.

Andrew “Sub Prime Mortgage” Cuomo Wants to Be Governor of New York

If New Yorkers vote for the man who can be dubbed “Mr. Ground Zero” for the sub-prime mortgage mess that occurred because people with poor credit and no assets were given loans thanks to a law known as the Community Reinvestment Act.

Andrew Cuomo as HUD secretary under Bill Clinton badgered banks to make these very risky sub prime mortgage loans to Blacks and Latinos or risk not being in complaisance with the CRA and invite harsher regulations.

Andrew Cuomo must be held to account for what he did and if New Yorkers still votes him in as governor, then we deserve what we get and it will confirm to me that I live in a state filled with liberal idiots.

B'klyn ACORN Cleared Over Giving Illegal Advice on How to Hide Money from Prostitution

What kind of justice is this?

Democrat Brooklyn DA, Charles Hynes, who made his fame on the 1986 racial attack at Howard Beach, didn’t see anything wrong with ACORN workers giving advice on how to perform legal activity to a pimp and a prostitute.

How is that exactly?

Anybody want to check Hynes’s checking account for non-profit donations for his re-election fund?

The New York Daily News reports:

Brooklyn prosecutors on Monday cleared ACORN of criminal wrongdoing after a four-month probe that began when undercover conservative activists filmed workers giving what appeared to be illegal advice on how to hide money. While the video by James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles seemed to show three ACORN workers advising a prostitute how to hide ill-gotten gains, the unedited version was not as clear, according to a law enforcement source.

"They edited the tape to meet their agenda," said the source.

O'Keefe and Giles - who visited ACORN offices in several cities, including its Brooklyn headquarters - stirred controversy when they posted the videos on their Web site.
They were hailed as heroes by the likes of Rush Limbaugh and their footage led several government agencies to temporarily cut funding for ACORN as the prosecutors opened an investigation.

"On Sept. 15, 2009, my office began an investigation into possible criminality on the part of three ACORN employees," Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes said in a one-paragraph statement issued Monday afternoon.

"That investigation is now concluded and no criminality has been found."

The Pealing of the Non Profit Onion

Hey what do you know?

Didn’t that Obama guy teach ACORN tactics, hmmm?

My rant about Democrats use of non-profits is beginning to catch fire!

Steve Malanga has a piece in today’s Post that lays out a history of who Dems learned their deceitful ways.

Can anybody say, Saul Alinsky?

ACORN's fruits
Billions to help pols, not the poor
By STEVEN MALANGA

ACORN may be fading away, thanks to government restrictions on its funding in the wake of the scandal in which its counselors advised undercover journalists on how to evade the law. But this does nothing to change the environment that propelled the radical activist group to national power.

ACORN is part of a huge network of nonprofits that continues to promote a big-government agenda in cities across America using taxpayer money. That network is alive and well today, even if ACORN itself dies.

This movement's roots go back to the godfather of community organizing, Chicago's Saul Alinsky, who in the 1930s envisioned local grassroots groups in poor areas that would mobilize residents into politically powerful coalitions.

In the 1960s, the architects of President Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty decided to federalize the Alinksy model by sending billions of taxpayer dollars to community groups, with a vague notion that these would somehow "empower" residents in their neighborhoods and thus improve their lives.
Larry Seabrook: Indicted over sham non-profits

Instead, over time these nonprofits became the new political clubhouses in many areas -- and the activists who ran them became our next generation of politicians.

In New York, by the 1970s and '80s, the road to political office increasingly ran through taxpayer-funded nonprofits -- as politicians like Pedro Espada and Ramon Velez in The Bronx and Vito Lopez in Brooklyn used community groups as launching pads for political careers.

New York isn't unique. On Chicago's South Side, a young community organizer named Barack Obama launched a political career after heading up the Developing Communities Project, a social-service group that lived almost entirely off government grants.

James O’Keefe Speaks About Arrest: Reports Are False

Big Government.Com

The government has now confirmed what has always been clear: No one tried to wiretap or bug Senator Landrieu’s office. Nor did we try to cut or shut down her phone lines. Reports to this effect over the past 48 hours are inaccurate and false.

As an investigative journalist, my goal is to expose corruption and lack of concern for citizens by government and other institutions, as I did last year when our investigations revealed the massive corruption and fraud perpetrated by ACORN. For decades, investigative journalists have used a variety of tactics to try to dig out and reveal the truth.

I learned from a number of sources that many of Senator Landrieu’s constituents were having trouble getting through to her office to tell her that they didn’t want her taking millions of federal dollars in exchange for her vote on the healthcare bill. When asked about this, Senator Landrieu’s explanation was that, “Our lines have been jammed for weeks.” I decided to investigate why a representative of the people would be out of touch with her constituents for “weeks” because her phones were broken. In investigating this matter, we decided to visit Senator Landrieu’s district office – the people’s office – to ask the staff if their phones were working.

On reflection, I could have used a different approach to this investigation, particularly given the sensitivities that people understandably have about security in a federal building. The sole intent of our investigation was to determine whether or not Senator Landrieu was purposely trying to avoid constituents who were calling to register their views to her as their Senator. We video taped the entire visit, the government has those tapes, and I’m eager for them to be released because they refute the false claims being repeated by much of the mainstream media.

It has been amazing to witness the journalistic malpractice committed by many of the organizations covering this story. MSNBC falsely claimed that I violated a non-existent “gag order.” The Associated Press incorrectly reported that I “broke in” to an office which is open to the public. The Washington Post has now had to print corrections in two stories on me. And these are just a few examples of inaccurate and false reporting. The public will judge whether reporters who can’t get their facts straight have the credibility to question my integrity as a journalist.

Corrupt ACORN Honcho Bertha Lewis Calls James O’Keefe a Crook

I thought in this country you’re presumed innocent before proven guilty.

Not according to ACORN C.E.O, Bertha Lewis, who couldn’t wait to get on the Ed Show to squawk about Conservative activist, James O’Keefe who was arrested today in Louisiana for allegedly trying to wire tap the office of Senator Mary Landrieu.

This is the same senator that was promised $100 million dollars for her state by the Obama administration in exchange for voting for ObamaCare.

I wonder what evidence is lurking in Landrieu’s office.

James O’Keefe Arrested in New Orleans

From Big Government.com

Statement from Andrew Breitbart:

“We have no knowledge about or connection to any alleged acts and events involving James O’Keefe at Senator Mary Landrieu’s office. We only just learned about the alleged incident this afternoon. We have no information other than what has been reported publicly by the press. Accordingly, we simply are not in a position to make any further comment.”

A conservative activist who posed as a pimp to target the community-organizing group ACORN and the son of a federal prosecutor were among four people arrested by the FBI and accused of trying to interfere with phones at Sen. Mary Landrieu’s office.

Activist James O’Keefe, 25, was already in Landrieu’s New Orleans office Monday when Robert Flanagan and Joseph Basel, both 24, showed up claiming to be telephone repairmen, U.S. Attorney Jim Letten’s office said Tuesday. Letten says O’Keefe recorded the two with his cell phone.

Flanagan, the son of acting U.S. Attorney Bill Flanagan in Shreveport, and Basel asked for access to a phone at the reception desk. Then they asked for access to a phone closet so they could work on the phone system. The men were directed to another office in the building, where they again said they were telephone repairmen.
They were arrested later by the U.S. Marshal’s Service. Details of the arrest were not available. A fourth man, Stan Dai, 24, was also arrested, but Letten’s office said only that he assisted the others in planning, coordinating and preparing the operation.

Federal officials did not say why the men wanted to interfere with Landrieu’s phones or whether they were successful. Landrieu, a moderate Democrat, declined comment Tuesday. She has been in the news recently because she negotiated an increase in Medicaid funds for her state before announcing her support for Senate health care legislation.

Bill Flanagan’s office confirmed his son was among those arrested, but declined further comment.

An FBI criminal complaint charging the men was unsealed Tuesday, and a magistrate set bond at $10,000 each after they made their initial court appearances wearing red prison jumpsuits.

None of the defendants commented on the allegations in court.

“It was poor judgment,” Robert Flanagan’s lawyer, Garrison Jordan, said in a brief interview outside the courthouse. “I don’t think there was any intent or motive to commit a crime.”

Eddie Castaing, who represented O’Keefe, Dai and Basel, said he had no details on the allegations.

“We are just grateful that they were not detained … and they can go home to their families,” he said.

O’Keefe was the brains behind a series of undercover videos that have caused major problems for ACORN—the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now.
He managed to do what Republicans have been trying to do for years—hurt the political affiliates of ACORN, which have registered hundreds of thousands of voters in urban and other poor areas of the country.

By producing undercover videos shot in ACORN offices, O’Keefe brought a firestorm of criticism that the group was helping its low-income clients break the law.
Using a hidden camera, O’Keefe, posing as a pimp and accompanied by a young woman posing as a prostitute, shot videos in ACORN offices where staffers appeared to offer illegal tax advice and to support the misuse of public funds and illegal trafficking in children.

Edited videos of those visits to ACORN offices were first posted on biggovernment.com, a site run by conservative Andrew Breitbart. Reached by phone Tuesday about the Landrieu allegations, Breitbart said, “I know nothing of it other than people are asking me questions.”

In the past, Breitbart has said O’Keefe—now a paid contributor to biggovernment.com—is an independent contractor not an employee.

O’Keefe has been sued in Pennsylvania and Maryland based on the ACORN videos; he does not have an attorney of record in either case and attempts Tuesday to locate a lawyer who might represent him were not successful.

ACORN calls itself the largest grass roots community organization of low- and moderate-income people in the country, claiming over 400,000 families, more than 1,200 neighborhood chapters in about 75 cities.

Until the controversy last year over the videos at ACORN offices, 10 percent of ACORN’s funds came from federal government grants. In September, Congress blocked previously approved funds from going to the group.

Brit Hume: A Profile in Courage in a Godless Landscape

Embattled Brit Hume last Sunday showed tremendous courage by extending an invitation to Tiger Woods to the Christian faith. Not many people if any in his position on television would ever dare come close to talking about such a thing in an industry dominated by Liberals who routinely only pay lip service to a belief in God, let alone Jesus Christ.

The torrent of criticism hurled at Hume by The Left was expected and even vicious at times. However, Hume is applaud by Christians around the world who rightly understand that what he did was not only compassionate, but also he was obeying the last commandment that was issued by Christ himself.

Matthew 28:18-20
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Of course, Liberals in their total ignorance of who Jesus was and what he actually did and said, are busting their collective spleens accusing Hume of disparaging Hinduism and by extension all other man-made religions.

Here's a sample:

Why Brit Hume Comment on Tiger Woods is Creepy, Wrong
By John Aloysius Farrell U.S. News & World Report
http://www.usnews.com/blogs/john-farrell

“It takes a religious zealot to strap explosives around his or her waist and, murmuring prayers, blow up a CIA facility in Afghanistan, or take down an airplane over Detroit, or steer a jet into the World Trade Center. Or, for that matter, to treat the world to Crusades and Inquisitions and the kind of faith-based savagery we've seen in places like Belfast, Bosnia, Beirut, and Jerusalem.

That is what made Brit's comments so creepy: the self-certainty that "my god is better than yours."

Hume has the right to yak. People get paid to say all sorts of provocative things these days. I have no doubt that some of his best friends are Jewish, or Buddhist, or of a different Christian denomination. I am sure he loves all wogs, in his way.

But, jeez, what a stupid thing to think.”

This is a typical Liberal reaction. Notice how they always lump in Christianity with terrorists performing acts of terror and other historical bloody events with their, “if not for religion” argument, all this misery could have been avoided.

Yes, Ann Coulter was right, they (The Liberal Left) are indeed Godless!

Religion has nothing to do with this situation.

Tiger Woods is a man in desperate need as demonstrated by his reckless behavior. His story is common albeit more magnified by his world wide celebrity.

His marriage is fallen apart and his family unit is destroyed. However, many Christians have experienced the same thing. Our stories may be different, but no less painful for us all.

It is at these times, when we hit rock bottom, when we find out that Jesus Christ is the rock at the bottom!

Now, I don’t if Tiger Woods has hit bottom yet. And most likely Brit Hume doesn’t know either. But, just in case Tiger is near that bottom rung, Brit did the right thing, and he did it very well.

Sarah Palin Schools President Obama on National Security

The following is a statement by Sarah Palin from her Face Book page.

“President Obama’s meeting with his top national security advisers does nothing to change the fact that his fundamental approach to terrorism is fatally flawed. We are at war with radical Islamic extremists and treating this threat as a law enforcement issue is dangerous for our nation’s security. That’s what happened in the 1990s and we saw the result on September 11, 2001. This is a war on terror not an “overseas contingency operation.” Acts of terrorism are just that, not “man caused disasters.” The system did not work. Abdulmutallab was a child of privilege radicalized and trained by organized jihadists, not an “isolated extremist” who traveled to a land of “crushing poverty.” He is an enemy of the United States, not just another criminal defendant.

It simply makes no sense to treat an al Qaeda-trained operative willing to die in the course of massacring hundreds of people as a common criminal. Reports indicate that Abdulmutallab stated there were many more like him in Yemen but that he stopped talking once he was read his Miranda rights. President Obama’s advisers lamely claim Abdulmutallab might be willing to agree to a plea bargain – pretty doubtful you can cut a deal with a suicide bomber. John Brennan, the President’s top counterterrorism adviser, bizarrely claimed “there are no downsides or upsides” to treating terrorists as enemy combatants. That is absurd. There is a very serious downside to treating them as criminals: terrorists invoke their “right” to remain silent and stop talking. Terrorists don’t tell us where they were trained, what they were trained in, who they were trained by, and who they were trained with. Giving foreign-born, foreign-trained terrorists the right to remain silent does nothing to keep Americans safe from terrorist threats. It only gives our enemies access to courtrooms where they can publicly grandstand, and to defense attorneys who can manipulate the legal process to gain access to classified information.

President Obama was right to change his policy and decide to send no more detainees to Yemen where they can be free to rejoin their war on America. Now he must back off his reckless plan to close Guantanamo, begin treating terrorists as wartime enemies not suspects alleged to have committed crimes, and recognize that the real nature of the terrorist threat requires a commander-in-chief, not a constitutional law professor.”

Obama’s Top Counter-Terror Adviser: “There is no smoking gun.” Translation: Be afraid, be very afraid!

And the incompetence just keeps on coming from the Obama administration!

Yesterday President Barack Obama, who is still vacationing in Hawaii to feed his golf addiction, trotted out Deputy National Security Advisor John Brennan to the Sunday news shows, to attempt to calm the public’s angst over the recent failed terrorist attack on Christmas day by the fruit-of-loom bomber.

It didn’t work.

Incredibly, Brennan said this on Fox News Sunday:

“There is no smoking gun. There was no single piece of intelligence that said this guy is going to get on a plane.”

This guy makes Janet Napolitano look like Sherlock Holmes.

Now, I’m not an intelligence expert, but I used to be an investigator for the City of New York. And if I found out a man’s (Umar Farouik Abdulmutallab) own father walked into a U.S. Embassy in Lagos to report his own son had gone Jihadist, that’s pretty damn smokey.

And if I found out that the same guy spent time in Yemen, my eyes may begin to water.

Then if I also found out that the same guy had been banned from Britain, I may actually started coughing.

Why was the underwear bomber banned from Britain?

Brennan explained, “It was because of immigrations concern that was not related to terrorism at all.”

It turned out that Mr. Hot Pants lied on a visa application by putting down a fictitious school he wanted to attend in England.

I see.

So a Muslim who spent time in Yemen, lied on official government documents where you must sign an affirmation that you’re telling the truth, and Obama’s national security deputy still doesn’t see any 2020 hindsight smoke?

Why did he go on TV at all?

I hear the president is trying to coax Inspector Clouseau out of retirement. He’ll fit right in.
