Padres Slugger Adrian Gonzalez Would Skip 2011 ASG to Protest of Arizona law

From SanDiego Padres.com:

Adrian Gonzalez, a two-time All-Star, said he will boycott next year's All-Star Game, scheduled to be played in Phoenix, if the controversial Arizona immigration law is in effect.

"I'll support the players association 100 percent," the Padres first baseman told AOL Fanhouse on Saturday. "If they leave it up to the players and the law is still there, I'll probably not play in the All-Star Game. Because it's a discriminating law."

Gonzalez, who made the National League All-Star team in each of the past two seasons, was born in San Diego but grew up in both a San Diego suburb and Tijuana. He said that he'd like Major League Baseball to boycott Spring Training. Fifteen of MLB's 30 clubs have Spring Training facilities in Arizona.

"I know it can't be done, but they should take Spring Training out of [Arizona] if it's possible," Gonzalez said.

First of all Adrian, you have to be voted in the game first before you can boycott it. And coming out publicaly saying that you’ll boycott the game may cause many baseball fans to intentionally not vote for you.

Padres fans don’t care a hoot how you feel about Arizona’s new immigration law. All they care to see from you is hit home runs and help your team win.

That’s it!

If you want to boycott anything, quit the game that's paying you very nicely, run for political office that pays a lot less, and make all the speeches, protests, and boycotts to your hearts content.

Otherwise shut up, hit the ball, catch the ball, and throw the ball!

Your’re a baseball player, my friend, not the second coming of Simón Bolívar!
